Does anyone have any experience with the quality and fit of this item? With all the negative comments about the fit of repro sheet metal I want to check before I purchase something. thanks for the replies.

This running board shield does not look like it will give you the fit or original look of originals. If you are going to go with new ones, get them from Rootlieb.

To my untrained eye, the bump doesn't look right, comparing to my 29 Roadster. I bought asset from someone, can't remember where, but my son in law, who is a body man, tossed them and made a pair from scratch that do look correct. Used my originals for something to work from.

from my view, it does not have the original offset flange on the end where it attaches to the rear fender....buy the ones that do, or else good luck trying to get it on.

The splash aprons also don't have the small indentation along the front lower part where it bolts to the front fender. The splash apron looks a lot like the crappy Howell's junk - poorly made. It also appears that most of the slotted bolt holes are not punched. If you want a splash apron for a driver and don't care about authenticity, it will probably work, but not fit quite right. There are numerous original splash aprons available - why not buy a pair of them - they would be cheaper, but may require a little bodywork. That is what I do. Normally they are in decent condition. I almost always use original parts and have never had a problem with them fitting and looking correct.

I don't know how most people feel, but I would be unwilling to buy repro parts from hot-rod parts dealers. I really don't know what application their parts are exactly intended for and what standards those applications have. I would only buy from a tried and true Model "A" parts dealer like Bratton's, Snyder's or Berts,

the ad ballyhooed the splash apron as something short of sliced bread, yet some of us do not regard it as the best one available. Ergo, add in the mystery of the origin of the part, add in the advertising aspect....I'll still buy from a recognized Model A parts house. |
