Default Commutator replacement/repair

I just recently acquired a 1920 model T and found that the commutator is starting to stick real bad. Now it will not even move using the advance lever.
How do you lubricate or replace it? It appears that it is held on by a clamp from the generator and if I remove the clamp it will come off. Is that correct?
Do you have to remove it to lubricate it?

Yes

You remove the timer (commentator) shell and then clean the inside of the shell, where the contacts are. Then clean the roller contact. All should be shiny.

Then oil the roller, the oiler cap on the top of the Ford style timer is for light oil each 500 miles. See the Ford Owners Manual, or the Ford Service book.

Now if you have an aftermarket brand, these may be wiper type, or flapper type, they mostly don't need cleaning or oiling.

Thanks, I will go ahead and remove and inspect. Hopefully all is well and I can just clean and oil

I just picked up two T motors a '24 & '26 that sat for years, both motors were stuck. Both timers rotated with just a little help and were in very good condition inside, rollers free no rust. I lucked out, hope you do to. PK
