Just in case any one wants to know what a 1929 Chev pickup looks like. This is my truck in about 1970.

Since you sold it, the post can stay. Otherwise you would be advised to go elsewhere.

Is there some irony in this?

My friend had/has a 1928 Chevy pickup in pieces. He got very much hung by an inept/dishonest restorer. I'll have to find out if he still has the pieces.

Nice tell me where they like the cars with all kinds of stuctural wood in the body ? It is just amazing how few from that era are still around.

Very nice ! I like those solid wheels. Have two in a parts pile somewhere. Also , have a NOS carb for '29/'30 six. Got it at the first Pomona swap meet ...way back in about '71 !

The first half of 1929 the Carter carb had a short fat accelerator pump. The second half of 1929 they had a long thin pump. The Carters with the short fat pump are hard to find, and my 1929 Chevy was built on the first day's production.

BTW, the 20" wheels was 1929 only for the cars. 21" in 1928 and 19" for 1930.

Thumbs up Re: 1929 Chev pickup do not open if you do not want to see a chev

My first car was an original, except for paint & tires, '29 Chevy coach. That's a tudor in Ford talk. Great car, I put over 10,000 miles on it during high school in the late 60's. These days I have 2 Model-A's and another '29 Chevy coach, just like the one I had in high school!

Love those Cast Iron Wonder's

No going to keep what I have for now. That was a nice original truck that came from a couple of older farm people in Northern Mich. We use to work on there regular car. It only needed tires and paint. My Dad had a automotive repair shop and we did a lot of engine rebuilding. I use to grind the crank shaft along with many other jobs.

Yes they did but this truck had spent it life inside. It was in great shape. The box was even framed in wood with a tin covering. It was sweet running truck they had a 6 cylinder with over head valves.

I just did an ebay comparison. 85 Fords 28-30. 7 Chevrolets 28-30. Although I think that the Chevy was a Model A clone more were sold than Model A they were very cheaply made and wore out rapidly and now they are hard to find and seem to be more valuable than a Model A. They still aren't better, just "rare." That is ironic indeed.

Wow, not sure I can buy into that. In comparison, there is quite a bit of engineering differences between the two to say one was a clone, ...and for the times, the Chevrolet engineering/materials was superior to all of them over the Ford.

The biggest hang-up that the Chevrolet Bros. had over Henry was the resources that ole' Hank had. This is why the Ford has outlasted most other marques over time. Folks tend to forget that Henry had a self-made monopoly over most of the other car manufacturers. He had tons of capitol and he was very strong in a dealer network. Even with that advantage, in 1926-27 Chevy was kicking Ford's butt, and again in 1931 Chevrolets were outselling Model-A's 3-to-1.

Could you imagine, a car company TODAY shutting down completely for almost 6 months to bring out a new model? 1928, Ford couldn't ramp up for demand fast enough and I suppose on the other hand, 1931 rumors had to be floating about a 'new' Ford coming out for 1932. That might have hurt sales too. Sales were still meager in '32 for everybody.

Growley Bear - "Chevy was a Model A clone"

If there was any 'cloning' going on, it was Ford, which was following the industry standard / norm. Henry had 'locked' into his Model T for almost 20 years, making no model changes (of any strong, powerful note), only incremental improvements. His son Edsel, argued for years with his dad, over making a 'New Ford' to keep up with the competition. Chevrolet in particular was eating into Ford sales with vigor.

Edsel was a 'stylist' with a true talent in automobile design, including European auto design. When he designed the 'New Ford' for 1928, in both style and mechanics, he followed the mainstream. It was important to break from the image of Ford following behind in both style and engineering. In 1927 the Model T still had the planetary transmission and only 20 horsepower of engine. And the body's design was typical of the early 1920's.

The Chevrolet on the other hand, did keep up with America's modern innovations in automobile engineering and design. So Chevy is most definitely NOT a clone of the Ford Model A.

Ironically, however, as the '28 Chevrolet faded into oblivion, and the Ford Model A continued to (like that pink bunny) keep on going and going and going, the passing generations soon forgot the '28 Chevy, but the FORD MODEL A became an icon. I remember in the 1960's, as I would proudly drive my 1928 Chevrolet Sport Coupe around (everyday car), everyone would say " Wow, what a neat Model A !" Everyone assumed it was a Ford, because the Model A was common and seen everywhere. No one ever saw a '28 Chevy driving around. They had all pretty much disappeared.

The huge amount of wood in them is why there are so few around.
