Default removing a head

Is removing a head that has been on for 70 years a difficult task at best?
How many studs usually are rusted to the block asnd require drilling and taping? I was thinking of removing the old head and installing a high compression head, but it seems that a lot could go wrong then I would be in a mess. Any advice. Maybe I should leave well enough alone...If it an;t broke then don't fix it!
