The stock battery gauge in 39 - is it an amp gauge or a volt gauge?

All the 39 de luxes I ever saw had volt gauges, but the standard models had volt gauges or amp gauges, depending on the generator they came with.

I have a voltmeter (battery) gauge in my 39 DeLuxe. It has L and H at the ends (I assume that means Low and High). There is a bar in the middle labeled N for normal.
I've checked my battery and charging system and at idle/low rpm the needle registers below the normal range. At cruise/higher rpm the needle is nominally in the "N" range - whether that represents any accuracy, I don't know. I believe the 39 Standard and earlier uses the amp gauge. Hope that helps. Dan |

Normally a volt gauge has two attachment terminals on the back of it. One of those terminals goes to a ground connection. An amp gauge has no attachment terminals, just a heavy gauge wire threaded thru a loop on the back of the gauge. Modern "bridge" amp gauges do have terminals.
