Default 12 volt Issues

What do I need to do to put my old distributor back into the engine after I converted to 12 volts? My nu-rex is giving me trouble and I want to see if the problem of rough running under load is in the ignition system. I put the old distributor back in and used the condenser off of the nu-rex, but it shorts out. I've missed a step or two I'm sure. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure you are going from negative of coil to a 6v resistor then to the old distributor. If you do not have the resistor then you are sending too much voltage to distributor points.

Except for the coil the ignition system doesn't care.
