I recently read a thread pertaining to rust removal with molasses, NOT the one started by wrndln. In the thread I read some had a ratio - molasses to water and indicated the type of molasses, wet or dry. I have used the search to find this article to no avail. Can someone help?

I just filled a wash tub with water and poured the try molasses in. Have no idea how much maybe 10-15 lbs. It will not dissolve completely(at least mine didn't)> stirred it with a shovel put the parts in covered it with plywood placed in the sun. It gets a foam on top and I stirred it a couple of times. About two weeks later I had rust free parts. Now that it's getting warmer I'm gonna do some heads and two blocks. May go to a feed store and get some liquid and see how that works. May mix with the water better. Any left over put it on the pancakes.

Talked about our use of molasses to remove rust. 9 parts water to 1 part molasses is what we used and it worked great. We used wet molasses that we got from a restaurant supply company. It came in 5 gallon pails. Hope this helps. |

DUNN1929 - That is the info I wanted to see 9 to 1 and also wet molasses. Now I have to find a place to get some. Maybe I'll just buy some ( 1 qt or 1 gal )at the grocery store and try it myself on some small parts.
Thanks again DUNN1929 |

How about bead blasting and a bead blast cabinet?... I couldn't do without mine! If you're working on them it is a must have.
