Default Rumble seat step on bumper

Howdy,
I'm in the final stage of my back-to-rumble seat conversion and ordered a reproduction step pad from one of the major vendors. I've searched the site a bit and can't figure out how far from the (main) bumper bracket the step bracket should be mounted. I know I shouldn't be so obsessed about the "perfect" placement but while I'm doing it, I may as well be doing it right. Any measurement that would help me?

About those reproduction pads . . . in one word: poor quality. Okay, that were two words. I know they are made from pot metal but why did the manufacturer have to dip them into some old chrome bath, I wonder? The older one I have on my fender looks like raw aluminum, and the new repro one screams "Made in China" out to the world. Has anybody of you "aged" theirs?
