Default Early 1928?

Looking at buying a rusty early 28 Tudor. Is the chassis and running gear of any value. Not in running condition.

Guess the proper response is "how rusty?"

I had the opportunity to acquire some "Field located" Model A parts from my uncle. Field located actually meant left in the field and now grown up into small woods.

They were not too usable. "Thin" is the operative word. And not because it might be an AR type car which the radius rods and other parts tend to the "light" side.

It was just plain CORRODED. In places the backing plates were rusted through leaving holes.

It took some courage but also a realization that not every Model A should be on the road after (then) 60 years. You have a responsibility to put a gun to the head of the horse at some time in it's life. So I pulled the trigger on about 70 percent of what I took home.

Well, it was about 30 years ago now. And Model A parts were relatively plentiful then - and only slightly less so today. And knowing what I do now about the Model A and what is important I might make a different decision regarding using the gun today. But not much different.

Back then one could expect to pay about $100 for a complete Model A rear axle - barn fresh. Today about the same - although you may have to look a little further to maintain that price.

I think the key here is to negotiate well. If you're not sure and he's hard on a price then walk away. Or if you think you can get everything for the labor to take it (like my Uncle having me "pretty up" his property for him) - why not?

I still get people contact me about "old parts" found in their barn. Not so much now as I haven't been active with the car for a while (too long, actually) But I always enjoy going over to Amherst, NH Antique Auto Flea Market and look for "deals."

As I tell people - I have 100 percent of my first Model A, about 70 percent of the next, about 50 percent of the third, and then a bunch of dribs and drabs in "spare parts."

The hunt is at least part of the fun.

It can depend some what on "Just how Early) it is ??.. A good Multi disc fly wheel is kind of hard to find, Shock links, steering parts, if real early.

I'm going to look again as soon as the owner has some free time. It's been stored in a basement garage that is really damp. You can actually feel the moisture in the air. I'll get a couple pics of it.
