Default Used carburetor worth

Hi, met a guy with a used zenith carburetor for sale. I know my question will not have enough info, but what would one pay for such an item. It is not rusted and looks to be in good shape. Thanks Gino

When I run into question like this, I pop onto eBay and search for my item, then tick off the "Sold Listings" button on the left side, and see what they have been selling for.

I buy and restore zenith carbs, most I pay $30 - $40 assuming it is mostly complete with no cracks, broken castings or stripped threads.

Is it a Zenith, Zenith 1, or 2 or 3? Regular or side bowl( Fuel inlet a little further back). Single or double venturi? 1 and 2 are pretty common, except for the oens that have the raised letters instead of indented. Side bowl is harder to find. Side bowl Zenith 3 is the holy grail to find. Post a picture with more detail

When I bought my coupe it came with an extra carb that looked great, painted a nice black, etc. When I took it apart it was a mess inside. So I would say pay what you want but not to much with condition unknown.

They are a real bear to clean properly. The last one I bought had good castings but was clogged with black tar of some sort. Drilling the plugs out was the only way.

Prices can be all over the place .I've bought rusty Zenith 1 and 2 carbs for as little as 25 dollars and nicer but not rebuilt ones for fifty. Side bowl Zenith carbs go for anywhere from one hundred and fifty rusty to three hundred and fifty when rebuilt. I learned how to fix even the rustiest carburetor when I watched Fred Carelton do one on the carburetors and carbohydrates video.

Sometimes those dirty looking Model A carburetors the hot rod guys are selling at swap meets turn out to be the best running ones and are clean inside and have not been rebuilt. I bought a dingy looking Tilly last year at the Back To The 50's swap meet for $5. When I got home I opened it up and found everything inside looking brand new. Bolted it to my A and so far is the best running carb I own.

In 30 years in the hobbie I have only found one Zeneith 3 and the top of it was broke. The bowl which is OK, is also heavily pitted. So definately not in desirable shape.

I agree with the others as far as price. Rod

I'll offer him $50 I guess, it is not a side bowl. If he doesn't bite I'd rather just pay more for a sure thing. Thank a bowl full
