Default Speedo inner cable.

Bought a mail order repo inner cable ..says vintique A-17262-A 28 -30 with oval speedo.

My car is june 28.

Problem is the cable that came out of is .125 inch diameter and is squared same on both ends.

This repo cable is a square on speedo end and a key on gearbox end and is .145 diameter.

The gearbox drive has the small square hole. so do I have some bodgy drive fitted?

And IF I had the correct drive, how does a repo inner fit the case with 2 large ends on?

Your car should have the keyed inner cable. The keyed cable and housing is larger than the later square end cable.

Tom, are you saying my gearbox speedo drive ( or whole gearbox) is from a later car?

What year/s?

I either have to find and fit a double ended square drive 62 1/4 cable or get another gearbox drive then?

Wonder which is the easiest.

One clue was there was a thin square filler piece up inside the speedo head when I pulled cable.

The fit at the gearbox square is tighter.

The repo keyed cable square end does fit the oval speedo much nicer.

Yes, try Bert's for the correct drive gear for your oval speedometer.

You can also buy the parts new from any of the major parts houses. The oval speedometer was used through early 1930. The oval speedometer used the keyed cable. When I stopped at Bert's about 4 years ago I bought a nice original keyed speedometer cable and housing.

Ok Thanks Tom.

It does seem I have a later drive to an oval speedo.

Supplier is checking my request for a double ended square cable to replace what I have.

The last inner cable kit that I bought at a plain auto parts store had a cable with one squared end and a tool to square the other end, after you cut it to your length. It was not expensive.
