I am considering constructing my own set of Pickup Sideboards/Frontboard for my narrow bed 1930 CCPU. It appears it would not be too complicated to build. I am wondering if anyone has a set of blueprints/plans for the sideboards/front board? Or if they know of a resource that may have information on the construction of the sideboards/front board. If so, I would greatly appreciate seeing them, along with a "bill of material" on the lumber and hardware, if available.

Clyde, what type of lighting did you use inside the bib stop light? I was thinking of using LED with a standard bulb socket. Bob

Hi Bob, I put in a 6 volt halogen bulb its pretty bright, the leds would be real nice but i'm cheap and already had the halogen bulb. Clyde

Upright pieces are sized to fit the holes (approx1.25x1.5) salvaged from a pallet. Side pieces are 2.5" wide. Lower one is 2" above top edge of bed, and they are 1.5" apart. I think this is nicely proportional in size to the bed. They are held togetherby carriage bolts with barrel nuts for a finished look on both sides. Finish is satin varnish.

When I had my P/U, I installed oak side boards. I made the posts to fit snug in the
post slots, so they woulldn't rattle or vibrate. The side boards were a nice snug fit. Just had to pull up equally to get them out. Everything worked just fine. The fellow who bought it was really impressed with the side boards as well as with the rest of the truck.

Clyde: I think I have the identical light. I hear you on the halogen bulb. I've been thinking of mounting under the tailgate. Any reason you chose the position you did other than it looks good, and people might expect to see it higher up?

Mornin' Bob, My thinking was the people around my area are so intent on getting as close as they can to my tailgate that they should have at least one light they can see. I have turn signals but still use hand signals, sometimes the people coming at me think I'm waving and wave back, nice folks just not real bright. Sideracks were not factory items on pickups, and were built to suit individual needs, so any pattern or size goes. Original sideracks on larger trucks and wagons usually used carriage or stepbolts from the inside outward with washers and nuts on the outside and recessed into the stakes. Nuts or bolt heads protruding inward would snag and tear sacks or other cargo. Most racks were painted, not varnished. Also, I think you would find that tailgate hooks were usually hooked with an upward motion rather than hooked downward so that they wouldn't jump out when hitting a bump.

Another observation: In practical use, the horizontal boards were on the inside of the vertical stakes for strength, and the headracks often went above the rear window to protect it.

Good morning Gwill, I found my light at a local flea market, paid around $5. I had to put in a new bulb socket and paint it (was pretty rough). Good luck, comin up to flea market time up here if winter would start easin up!!!!! was in the 80's 2 yrs ago and I had 10 this morning. Clyde

On my way home from a tour and in my opinion, LED stop/tail lights should be mandatory! Especially on bright, sunny days. Being cheap is not an option to being safe.

Most of the guys in our club now have LED tail/stop lights. It only took a couple of guys to convert till the rest of them could see the benefit when on a tour.

I've added a LED 3rd stop light in the rear window of or 30 Tudor and trying to get LED turn signals working on it. I found a stop light like Clyde's on Ebay yesterday so I can do racks like his and also will add LED 3rd light under the bed. I fully agree, LED's are the only way to go.
At present I'm trying to locate a set of used interior panels for the CCPU we just bought to hold us over until we can buy a new set and then I need to find the door trim parts like the top rail and garnish moldings. Dot wants to get busy sanding and painting the truck but I want to slow her down and make a plan for what she wants it to look like since she has told me it's HER truck now.
