Hi:
I'm planning to install a new lightened flywheel assembly on my Early 28. Switching from a multi clutch to a single clutch drive . Do I have to switch out my Crankshaft or do anything to the engine? |

The tranny, clutch cover, and pedals will need to be changed, but nothing on the engine other than the flywheel.

The 1928 engines came with the beaver tail crankshaft. The beaver tail crankshaft is lighter and will give better throttle response, especially coupled with a lighter flywheel. The shape of the early crankshaft cuts the crankcase fumes with less resistance. It will be peppier.

The early beaver tail crankshaft is also stronger than the later crankshafts as it is a forging.

Can someone post photos of the two types side by side. This may be common knowledge to some but like me, I am sure there are a good number that don't know what a beaver tail crank is.

Thanks that does help. Model T's had the same shapes with the crank, the early have the diamond than went to the more straight sides.
