Default Flathead valves

I searched but could not find this info. After grinding the valves, what is the min. dimension that should be left on the side of the valve"

Hope that is clear.

Thanks,

Fourdy

1/32nd inch margin is what I always go by ,except in a high performace app .especially on the ehaust valve of which I like to have about 3/32.

That is called the valve margin, the specs are in the righthand column, called "min. head thickness."

Thanks ross f-1. I didn't see anything on the attachment showing where the tech info came from. I was wondering about the valve adjustment recommendations for lash. I never set mine that loose on my 8rt. that chart shows .017 and .019>>> man that's loose I have always set them at .010 and .012 cold .. very smooth and no noise.. I was given those settings by an old ford flathead man who worked on them all his life.????? Anyway thanks for the info...

Hey Ross,
Thanks, visuals/stats work for me ! I've used .013 for both valves with success.
I/32 in intake , but seems too 'slim' for exhaust heat/burn factor ?

The .017/.019 lash spec is ONLY for rotator type valve systems. I believe the rotators need the extra clearance to function. Surprisingly little difference in noise in my experience.
