I haven't studied the possibility, but maybe someone has tried it. I have a really nice chrome 1934 shifter stick that I would like to use on a '39 trans. Of coarse, the lower end is too short from the pivot ball to the lowest point. Short of cutting a and spicing the sticks, can the pivot ball on the '34 be moved up (if its pressed on)? I don't know if it would work, maybe the stick curve starts too close to the ball to do this. Maybe this would put the 'nub' on the side in the wrong place; don't really know.
Anyone have a spare 'swan' 35-39 stick handle??? Just thinking... Steve |

No, the ball on the bottom can not be moved. It is one piece and would require welding. The shifter bottom is also heat threated and can't be bent cold without cracking. If it is welded and were to brake while driving (which is the only time it will break, if it does brake) your possibly looking at a transmission rebuild. If you do any welding on it do it above the pivot point external to the case.

By welding, I mean above the pivot ball. But, I would have to start with the correct lower end of the late stick which I don't even have yet!

I took the newer curved stick and bent/shortened it to look original in my '32 with a '39 transmission. It looks just like the one in the instruction book that came with the car (unless you look real carefully and see it is a slightly larger diameter.

The length of the stick below the pivot ball (inside the trans tower/cover) is the problem of early versus late sticks.
