Default Follow up on Zenith

Put the kit in the zenith this morning. Replaced the float valve with the better valve. Runs better didn't stall at stop signs, it does backfire a little when I let off the gas to shift gears. Also there is still a little bit of gas on the bottom of the carb after I turn it off and let it set unless I shut the gas off. Suggestions?

Maclab58,

Whenever I park mine for more than a few minutes, I first shut off the gas valve under the dash - then let it run for 20 seconds or so. Then I turn the key off.
I never leave it sit for very long with the under dash gas valve left on.
Just a habit I've gotten into.

These are updraft carbs, when you turn the car off you can get a little gas to drop out of the throat / intake vertical area, not much but enough to show a little gas in the throat / choke area.

I came out after 20 min and there was a 6 inch gas spot on the driveway. Drove it again and still pops when I let off the gas to shift. Disappointed for sure.

How much do you have the GAV open?
If it is too shut down you will get a "pop" when you back off the gas.
Did you clean the GAV port / path?

Yes, cleaned the GAV port. May have had to turned down too much. I will readjust the float again tomorrow in hopes of getting rid of the dripping gas. Will keep y'all posted.

Get into the habit of what Jtomas6 says in #2. The shut off valve is the shut off valve the float valve is metering device. Back firing on changing gear may be a weak mix within carb - try enriching by turning GAV knob a tweak, or may be a weak mix outside of carb(!) eg slight air leak on carb/ intake manifold or intake /black manifold. Also sometimes different brands/grades of petrol give different characteristics.
