It seems like early ford (40?) master cyl. is reaching the end of the line in my coupe. I want to replace it with an up to date, dual model. Those single outlet jobs scare me. I would seriously consider dumping the Hyd. brakes and replacing with the original mech. brakes if it didn't cost so much in time and money. I just want it to stop safely.
So the M.C. of choice seems to be the early Chevy, but I have a new one and it's a big, clunky thing and there ain't no way I'm gonna get in the space with out a lot of mod work. Sooo... what's a good replacement? smaller and more compact, dual outlets AND be able to get the top off to fill once it's in place! Thenks in adavance Terry

NAPA has a Mustang MC for around $30 with dual chambers.

As Denis4X4 says, i think most guys doing conversions use the mustang m/c, one from a vette (not sure which one) is also popular. Might ck on the dark side (HAMB).

Go back to the Mechanical brakes. They don't leak and work every bit as well as juice brakes.

Take a look at the Wilwood units. Small, compact and some have adjustable leverage bar for front back bias.
Also consider rebuilding the one you have. Maybe the cheapest route.
Also consider that many race cars have single cylinders with no problems.

WOW! I looked at Wilwood! Nice stuff! Kinda Pricey, but nice! I'm sure one of those units would fit and work fine. Unfortunately, Money is an issue and the one I liked best only has a .625" bore. From what I gather, I need at least a 1.000" bore. I may cut about 3/4" off the top of the Chevy unit but it won't really help me that much. (Too much bigness and clunkiness, 3/4 really won't put it where it wants to be) Drat)

I used an early mustang. Its small and fits in nice. Be sure to get the one for shoe brakes all around because some are disk on front. When you try to bleed them the air goes to the other end. Bleed the back the air goes to the front. Bleed the front the air goes to the back. What we did was onhook the front and install a plug.Bleed the back then connect the front and bleed the front.

Thanks guys! But I have to ask this, Where are your mustang M.C.s located? My M.C. is located between the Transmission and just behind the battery, hanginf off a 1/4 plate that's bolted to the inside of the crossmember. The one on my Town Sedan is to a plate welded outside the frame. that is operated by the brake crossover rod/bar and will take pretty much any size M.C.. Whereas the one in the coupe has to be compact. Thanks again.

Mine is located under the passenger side floor board and easy to check.

I checked with Wilwood: (using stock Model A spindles)

We do not offer any kits for this spindle. We do offer kits for the early Ford spindle (1937-1948).

Just a Wilwood master not an entire kit.

Check the Grandview racetrack swap meet that should be coming up in the spring. I got several used Wilwood masters for about $10 a piece.
