Does anyone else have an F-1 Pickup made at the Long Beach Plant?
I have found a little info regarding the ID #, some state that they start off with the paint code, this particular one has LB 14 H 517. The original color is present, I was just curious about this anomaly. Also what factory installed options were available in 50'? So far I have discovered that a 2nd windshield wiper, 3 speed floor shift, 239 V8, heater (one note said several heaters were available?), radio, sun visor(s), and ????? Which heaters were available? Were turn signals a factory option? One document stated that 358k F series, and 79k F1s were made in 1950, is there any data to break this down by each plant? Any recommendations on where to find more info about the First Series F models? Ok, enough gabbing. Thank you for the info!

THere were 2 different 3 speeds on the floor. From 48-mid 50, there was the light duty 3 spped and a heavy duty 3 speed. From late 50, it was a column shift light duty and the heavy duty. 3 different heaters, a recirculating heater , a fresh air heater and the add on recirculating ( dealer installed ). A radio ( not alot sold ) 2 dealer installed radios using the car radio with different mounting places ( in existing hole or under dash ). 2nd sun visor, rear bumper. Turn signals were a dealer installed only option. 2nd wiper. Hiway horns. Trumpet horns ( same as 51-52 horns ) Dealer installed Windshield washer kit, Fog lamps , Cigar lighter.
Ford pushed dealer installed options on cars and trucks as a profit builder for the dealer. Most were installed by the dealer. Not many trucks had options installed, as they were for work, not play like today. Whole different mindset on the truck and function back then. I know member MT Flat will chime in with the breakdown of the code on the firewall. He may be able to break down the numbers for each year's production. Look for sales brochures, salesman's data books, shop manuals, parts catalogs on Ebay All are being reproduced except the data books. You can go to www.ford-trucks.com for info, many members there own these trucks. Google " Ford F-1 " for info. THere's no "encyclopedia " as such on the trucks.

All the assembly plants used their own variations of the assembly code. Your stamping only says Long Beach, 14 August, and the vehicle down the line. I'd need to see your VIN to know if it falls into the '49 or '50 year groups.
You won't find many accurate production numbers for these trucks - from a old Ford employee I learned that Ford burned all the old records in 1967. We've been working for the past 15 years or so to put some of it back together but many large gaps still remain. You may find the following link interesting. It hasn't been updated for a long time, but still has some good info - I can't tell you how accurate the info is. http://ww4.choice.net/~oftc/trucks.htm |
