Hi,

I have read that 4,954 1929 Model A Station Wagons (Woodies) were built by Ford. Does anyone have a clue as to how many remain today?

Probably more than was originally manufactured by Ford!!

I know there are more '28s existing today than were originally manufactured by Ford!

According to the book "Famous Ford Woodies" by Lorin Sorensen, there were 5 Station Wagons built between Oct/Dec, 1928. These were pre production models. If you look at some of the pictures of the first few you can see minor changes, different bolt locations, different brackets etc. For the 1929 year, Ford built 5176 wagons. According to the National Woodie Club's membership directory, there are about 65 in the club. Here's the puzzle though, there are 15, 1928 wagons listed. ???? Who knows how many are left.

Much agree with Brent. Same thing with the 1928 130-A Deluxe Delivery prototypes I started researching a few months ago. When I first brought home my delivery body I considered putting it on my March of 1928 chassis. After doing some research I found none were produced until some prototypes in Nov.1928. I chose to find a 1929 chassis to be more correct. Not everyone thinks that way and just start bolting mismatched parts together and end up building something that never existed originally. Rod

There is a 29 wagon for sale in my town. My brother just bought a 29 wagon in southern CT. No clue how many exist, but they are out there. I think there were 5 at the new england meet in September. One was hand made, and had roll up windows, but from the outside was a good copy.

I restored my 12/10/28 wagon in the early to mid 1970s. I still have it, show it and drive it on club tours. There are no finger joints in it's original, restored wood.

Pretty simple. Not too hard to order a reproduction body from Pleasantville and install it on a '28 chassis. Title it as a 1928 and tell folks it is one of the 5 that Ford made. Funny is, I know where there are two 1928 Station Wagons like that. THAT is 'how so'.

The key is that the 5 or 6 known station wagons built in 1928 do not have finger joints in the wood around the rear fenders.
