What do you do when your notches on the quadrant are gone where your spark and throttle rods ride?

Also I need a worm gear if anyone has a good one?

Are the worm gears hard to get off the shaft? Should I use heat? And then there's getting one back on.......

Define "GONE". Does that mean they are totally missing, --or just worn some? There has been recent discussion about this, and plenty in the archives too but in a nutshell, I use a torch to heat the metal red and a soft blow from a hammer onto a dull chisel to remake them.

There has also been recent discussion on this. I use a press with a special clamping fixture for the shaft to remove & replace. I think it is Mitch that threads the shaft and uses a bolt & nut to press the worm back on. Several ways to accomplish this. Vendors sell new worms that will likely need to be fitted to your sector, ...as would a used worm.

The notches are worn totally smooth. Actually they have little rolled edges on the metal where the notches used to be cause by the spark and throttle rods.

Maybe I would be better off trying to find a good used steering column?
It is a 31 model A

you can use a press or puller to remove the worm from the shaft. i use this snap on puller and to install i tap the end of the shaft then use a grade 8 nut and bolt, washer set up. the end of the shaft already has the hole no drilling required just a need to tap the threads.

Does anybody sell the splined seven tooth steering shaft with a new worm gear installed ??? The only ones that I see in Snyders or Brattons are for right hand drive.
