A week ago I had the great pleasure of spending a few hours watching the craftsmen at J&M Machine in Massachusetts do their thing. My buddy is having his ’28 engine redone there and I tagged along for the 3 hour ride from Rockland County NY. We’re Model A owners but J&M’s business appears to be engines of any kind. Flathead V8s, Packards, TBirds, V12s, Trucks, Tractors, Marine engines… You name it, they rebuild it. I brought along a camera and recorded a few operations for your viewing pleasure.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I have no affiliation or monetary interest in J&M. I’m just a garden variety office worker and gearhead wanna be who appreciates fine art. Thanks for posting. I have messed with engines as a hobby for 40 years and have always wondered how on earth they grind rod journals and deal with the offset. Now I see it quite clearly. This was really informative.

That is a very well organized shop that does know what they are talking about and know what is required to provide a quality job. Old Ron would like this statement they were asked if they run their engines after rebuild and they said in 20 years they only ran 1 and it was at a customers request as they do know what they are doing.
http://jandm-machine.com/ I spent some time on the web page and there is lots to learn for the uninformed that need the info. I personally have been in 100's of machine shop visits over the years and without doubt these old boys would give you a quality job bar none.Great find "Spinell" Leo good on you. R |
