sometimes it works but most of the time i have to drill them out. what i do is knock the head off then drill down 3/4 of the way in the center. then a small punch usually knocks them out the rest of the way. the pin is soft metal and easy to drill out
a 15/64 is the standard pin size maybe berts has a better tool than most of the suppliers Last edited by Mitch//pa; 10-21-2013 at 08:23 AM. |

the tool I bought didn't work but I was able to unscrew the hinges from the body to remove the doors.

The problem is that yo have to move metal to metal settings that have been happily married for many years. The moving the door around area comes form the experience that sometimes the hinge halves wear themselves into a kind of shel for part of their travel. You need top find the part of the cirlce where the hinge doesn't hit the shelf to get it to move. Patience, lots of penetrating oil, sometimes a drift punch, sometimes a cutting torch, sometime a drill. Also keep in mind that there is a knurled area right under the pin top you'll have to deal with as well. They were made to go in, coming out-not so much.

I used this tool to remove the pins on 2 of my hinges (to install hinge mirrors) and my friend used it on his '50 F1. You do have to fiddle with it due to the wear on the hinge & pins, but it did work very successfully.

yes tom the swelling makes it nearly impossible. i should also add that usually you dont have to drill as large as 15/64 smaller 3/4 down and then punch it out
