Default exhaust manifold leak

New Model A owner here & confused.

Saw a you-tube where (2) 3 hole gaskets were used.

Questions are:
1. Are both exhaust & intake manifolds removed to fix leak at #1 exh?
2. Does one scrape the old gasket residue off the manifolds/block surfaces with manifolds just lifted just off studs?
3. What " sealer" is used with Copper cladabestos gaskets?

I guess the clamp tween exh manifold and pipe has to be losened?

Sorry I haven't picked up any reference material yet.

Thanks, Dick

Yes, both exhaust and intake come off. Actually, they come off together. The intake manifold is bolted to the exhaust manifold so they can come off together as a pair.

Scrape off any junk that's there, and use no sealer when reassembling. Just use the gasket.

You will need to remove the exhaust clamp and muffler pipe. Make sure you notice how it comes off because there is a "top" and "bottom" to those manifold clamps.

In most cases it is not necessary to remove and detach the muffler pipe. Just loosen the rear muffler/frame clamp and you can twist/slide the exhaust/intake assembly back on the four studs far enough to clean off the old gasket and put in a new one. I like to smear on a very thin film of Permatex ultra-copper RTV. Remember to re-tighten the muffler/frame clamp and let it set up cold 24hrs. Retorque (carefully!) after a few running heat cycles.
