Default Tube shock users: Have you tried KONI ADJUSTABLE shocks?

More than Forty years ago I used Koni adjustable shocks on several VW type IIIs (FastBack/Square Back) and Beetles.

Koni still lists shocks for VW type IIIs at about $90 each.

Seems that Model A is a similar sized car.

Dampening adjustment:

Rebound adjustment: (on some types)

If you dig around on website there may be addition info of interest.

I've got a conversion kit made by Ryan Kaye. It was a little over $300.00 and came complete with Gabriel shocks and didn't require drilling extra holes anywhere. The ride is good and I no longer have issues with body roll in a corner like I'd before. Koni shocks are nice and being adjustable is a plus. Should I ever need to replace mine I might try them.
