Default Help in Western Massachusetts

I have a long history working on Model A's, and just bought a car with a 36 Ford V8.
It ran like a top, started instantly, plenty of power, and ran so smooth most people did not know it was running.
Then the other day it will start and run, but the second I give it any throttle is dies.
I have posted this here and tried all sorts of things. Cleaned the jets, checked the carb for debris, checked the float, cleaned the fuel filter, blew out the fuel line, and checked the spark.
Is there anyone in the western Mass area who is knowledgeable, I would pay to have someone familiar with this engine help me.
I am at the end of my rope, and have been working long hours on this.
P.M. me with a phone number

Have you tried pulling the choke some, as you give it throttle ?
If so, does that make it better or worse ?

Sounds to me like your fuel pump is gone.

It does not really change much until you get so much choke it runs rough. I am open to suggestions.
I have checked:
Fuel pump,
fuel filter
carb jets / pump
fuel line

It ran absolutely fine Friday, plenty of power, drove great. Starts nice now, but will only idle. Any throttle and it dies.

The fuel pump is working well, putting out plenty of fuel, I checked the diaphragm and it is intact.
I ran a line off the fuel line and plenty of fuel. Unfortunately try to find a fuel line pressure gauge that goes to this low level. Modern ones start at 10 lbs.
Please keep thinking and let me know.

Well, it's air, fuel, or spark. Sounds like fuel is OK. Sounds dumb, but maybe a mouse built a nest in your air cleaner over the weekend? I'm assuuming that's been checked.

I did have a car do what you're talking about when the points went bad. Would idle fine but couldnt handle a load

I'm not familiar with the older style distributors. Maybe GMC Bubba can help?

Just a thought, maybe it's an electrical issue.

A (non flathead) car I was driving years ago did the same as your '36,
trying to accelerate, just wanted to kill the engine.
Checked many many things, and it ended up being a bad end on the
main coil wire.
good luck.....

Thanks to all the friends who answered my plea.
I think (I hope) we found the problem.
6 full volts going into the coil, nothing coming out.

I ordered a new coil and we will see.
Personally, with all my experience being in Model A, I had to look up to find out where the coil was! Who would think a coil would be under the fan?

Thanks, I will update when the parts come in, I ordered from http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/i...prices-pg1.htm
Has anybody dealt with them?

I could've leant you a coil to try, that is if it's a 3 screw coil. Let me know if you want to borrow it to try. Ludlow is my old stomping ground, I used to work all over western Mass.

Thank you, you were spot on. I had power to the coil, nothing to the plugs. Now try to find a rebuilt one. It is a very unusual. Short production run ( 6 months) so no reproductions.

Skip Haney should be able to rebuild your coil.
