Default Model A bed ?

Did the wide bed look like this or did the tailgate go all the way across? This one has been widened the correct amount. But I don't know if this is correct at the back

That one is a cobbled up mess. The tailgate is for a narrow-bed and has had pieces welded on to make it wider. The "real" wide beds had square corners , not rounded ones like the narrow beds have. Can't really tell from the pictures if the bed itself has been widened, but the tailgate certainly has been.

The tailgate hasn't been widened, the bed has been. The pieces on the end are welded to the box not the tailgate

Looking again, the bed does appear to be a widebed as the right and left inside corners are square, not rounded like the narrow bed. The back tailgate frame looks like it has been stretched -- looks like there is a piece welded in the middle.

Is there this same type of patch on the front panel?

Maybe the whole back tailgate & frame were welded onto a widebed??

It looks like the original gate broke off at the hinge (look at the space to the right of the present hinge between the rivets) and a narrow bed gate was put in it's place. The gap was then filled in by welding a plate to the bed.

It had been on a hot rod and apparently made to fit how the guy wanted. The measurements are correct for a wide bed but it has been widened. I'm not up on all the little nuances of the beds. It looks as though this is a combination of pieces. I was told by a local restorer that it was a wide bed so that's how I advertised it.
