My modified, full pressure B engine's oil pressure has always gone way down to 0 on right turns. I bought this engine from a well known B engine builder just before our first Europe trip with the Model A Touring Club.
Today I dropped the pan and found a strange looking oil pump with the oil pickup point about 2" above the bottom of the spring at the bottom of the oil pump. I think the oil goes to the left side of the pan on right turns and doesn't get picked up. The oil pump baffle sold by Snyders doesn't fit my oil pump. I suppose I could just run 7 or 8 quarts of oil so the level wouldn't go down so much, but I'm afraid it might leak. This B engine has been in the car since 1998 and has taken me to Europe twice and also to Baja, Canada, and all over the western US. Plus or minus 20,000 miles. What should I do? |

My e-mail address is [email protected] I do baffle my pans, and sometimes my wife! You are right in saying the oil sloshes away from the pump. You may be able to change the pickup or in stall baffles with hinged devices to keep the oil near the pump. You need to buy my book, it explains all that. I'm at the MAFFI museum and won't be home until July 2nd or so.

I had the same problem. This is how I addressed it. I increased the pan capacity on the oil pump side of the pan, and modified the two center baffles per Jim's instructions.
Read a little tech write up I did on the HAMB starting on the bottom of this page: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...8&postcount=80 It continues on the next page: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...1&postcount=81 ![]() ![]() ![]() |
