Default Gordon Smith Compressor

We found a Smith compressor in a collapsed garage made from a Model A chassis. Most likely a a do-it yourself type conversion, with the frame shortened, transmission removed and the rear end moved forward, forming a trailer. The condition of the engine is unknown and the history is also unknown. The owner would like to sell it, what do you think would be a fair price for the as is considering the unknowns.

Not worth a whole lot more than a questionable may or may not run Model a motor. They are nice when they are running if you have a use for them. Do not pay more than $100. If you plan to make it usable make sure all needed parts are there. Governor, pilot valve and head. You may want to have whatever is there for a tank inspected before you put pressure to it.

Start with scrap value, add if complete (unloader, idle back, pressure regulator, governor, special carb limkage), add more if not siezed and hand cranking will make it pump air ( mine will).

The valves in the compressor section are just flat sections of spring, if they break the head gets chewed up quick ---if you can turn it over and it pumps there is a good chance that the valve strips are not damaged.

The last one I sold on e-bay only brought $125. The 30-31 Model A cowl and tank was worth more than that. For that reason I have not listed my other one and not sure I will. Rod
