Default Transmission rod to frame bolts 1938 std.

Hi Fellas -

I just removed the engine from my 1938 std. I took the transmission out with the engine. There are 2 "rods" going from the transmission to the frame. I undid the nuts at the transmission and the other end was held in place by a countersunk screw with a hollowed out square for a head. i tried making a 3/8" extension into a makeshift bit, but it did not work. had to drill and EZ-out it. Now I need 2 of these "screws" for the replacement. Does anyone know where to get replacements?

Thanks -

Tom

They are called "Engine Radius Rods" by Ford, but most folks call them anti-chatter rods.

I was able to get a tool on them when I made my own lug out of a No. 8 Bolt.
It worked for me.

I ordered the special bolts, washers and a square rod from Ray Naciwecz. Just installed mine last week.

Thank you TonyM. I did not know what those little devils were called. Thanks for the pictures, that is exactly what they were. I will try your bolt trick.

Again thank you.

I usually apply penetrating oil and let that soak in. Then I use a hand held impact driver to get them started out. Have also used heat to help get some out that had rusted at the threads.
