I am replacing the sparkplugs in the truck and noticed the old spark plugs did not have the metal washer/gasket on them. Should the metal ring be on the plugs or not?

They do helps seals the plugs early ones are copper later ones steel mine always fall off at the wrong times if i'm not carefull when changing the plugs. There are some plugs out that that do not need a sealing washer i have not found any for the Model A

The only ones without gaskets that come to mind right now are the pipe thread such as Model T used, and the modern day plugs that use a 5/8" socket.

The washers should be there. If your vehicle has the original 7/8" sparklers then you might only be able to find them at an 'A' vendor such as Brattons, Synders, Mac or the others.
A regular auto store clerk just may give you a weird look.

It seems I read somewhere sometime that the washers were essential for p[roper heat transfer. But I can't remember for sure. Maybe someone with a better memory can confirm or deny that. Anyway, I always use 'em.
