Crazy Commutator Mystery
Today I took apart a Model B generator to install an EVR, and noticed every other commutator segment was dark. They aren't burned, just dark. The armature checks out fine and the commutator polished up just fine, but I can't explain why every other segment was dark. I'd never seen nor heard of this before.
