The Fumaze wasn't an original part but was a very good accessory. I think that the person may have meant that it was an original Fumaze instead of the repro that was made later. The Fumaze was a period correct accessory. Since we started talking about them here on the forum, the prices have gone crazy. Still not so bad if you consider the price of the repro B type oil filler- breather tube. I like the Fumaze better.

I still need to fab the bracket to hold the one on that I bought several years ago. I didn't see where these had brackets either.

I'm curious what other period 'road draft' systems were available...I've seen the pillbox style systems - were those period accessories as well or a modern equivalent to the Fumaze?

I'll have to take a picture of mine. I found it in a crate with all the parts that came with my car. Happily my engine doesnt create enough blow by to need it. I like the way it looks better than the "official" Fumaze ones so I installed it anyhow.

I bought a collection of model A parts a few years back and there was two Fumazes in one of the boxes of parts , one was missing some parts. The model A really doesn't have a crankcase breather. The Fumaze is sorta like the ones used on the old chevy stove bolt and 235 sixes. Air moveing past the down tube of the Fumaze creates a vacume that draws the fumes and pressure out of the crankcase. You don't necessarily have to have excessive blow by for the Fumaze to be of value. Removing pressure from the crankcase reduces rear main leaks.

Very good info! A few years back I had a '50 Plymouth and retrofitted a road draft tube to it (DeLuxe models lacked the tube, while Special DeLuxes had them)...I did notice that it slowed the seepage on a leaky oil pan.
