Hi, replaced all the necessary brake parts shoes and all. Had a competent old guy set it all up. Then I brought it all back to my garage and put it all back together. I have this scrapping coming from the front pass. I'm not sure if it is brake shoe or metal on metal making the noise. Adjusting does not help and the wheel spins but will stop fast as it slows down. Do you think he shimmed them incorrectly and will it wear in? Thanks for the help and I'll bet you"ll see me here again lol. Gino

make sure it is coming from the r/f as noises travel. drive by someone standing besides the car for them to listen
can you jack it up spin it by hand and get it to make the noise? |

Yes, it will make the scrapping noise when spun by hand and I can feel when it has resistance. Probably when it hits an imperfection on the drum. ?

It sounds like the drum is too close to the backing plate and could be rubbing. You could either shim out the race in the drum, or the bearing on the spindle.
If you have new drums, make sure they were cut correctly to the inner edge. If anything is rubbing, you should be able to see the new shine of wear on the rubbing parts, take it apart again, and have a look.... |

did you remove the drum and look for fresh marks. a metal to metal rub shouldn't be that hard to find
i also like to chamfer the top and bottoms of the brake lining |

Why not take the brake drum off and check it out? Thats what I would do . There is a good possibility that one of the brake springs has come loose and is rubbing on the brake drum. The adjusting wedge cap may have fell of.

The new brake springs that were produced around 2 years ago were junk, and the suppliers new it. I went around and replaced all the springs on an entire car then went and ate lunch. As we were sitting in our office we heard loud banging coming from the shop and it turned out every one of the long springs had broken. I still dont trust the shiney silver springs, whatever they are made of.
