Default 1959 Mercury Fuel Sending Unit

The fuel sending unit in my 1959 Mercury Monterey has seen better days. Does anyone know if the FSU from other years are compatible? I see some listed for 1957-1958, and they look similar, but the part is not listed as fitting the 1959 year cars. And I'm not finding anything for 1959 Mercurys (save one OEM FSU for like $280.00).

I see in the master parts catalog they have different part numbers. But I was hoping maybe the earlier FSU can be used (and work properly) in the 1959 cars.

OK, thanks. I'll give them a call on Monday.

I was wondering what the difference is that makes the 1959 FSU so unique. It looks very similar to the 1957-1958 unit. I'm tempted to buy a 57-58 unit and compare the the one I have.

Does anyone happen know the resistance reading on a fuel sending unit? I get ~12 ohms on empty (or full, not sure which way) to ~55 ohms on empty (or vice versa, as previously noted). I'm wondering in my fuel sending unit is still giving the correct signal. this is for a 1959 Mercury Monterey.

I looked in the Mercury Maintenance Manual but it doesn't seem to have operation specifications for the fuel sending unit.

I don't know if that shop would give you specs they go by or not.

In a DLSHP, it either worked or not and was simply replaced.

Hmm...I'm going to compare the ohms to the new one I bought, and also hook it back up and see if the fuel gauge reads 'FULL' and 'EMPTY' when I move the arm to the extremes.
