Default Wooden Subrail Question

On the cars that used wooden subrails, did the wood rest directly on the side splash shields or was there some sort of pad in between.

There’s rubber shims/pads at the mounting bolt points

So they used the same rubber pads that the cars with metal subrails and body blocks used?

I took my unrestored '30 Town Sedan boddy off the frame last summer. Yes, rubber pads, around 1/2" thick (although mine were unevenly compressed after 90+ years...), directly under the wooden subrails.

When mounted, there should be 1/4" clearance between the running board aprons and the bottom of the body. This clearance is provided by rubber pads.
