Default Rumble Seat Opening

Looking for a picture of the inside of the bottom inside opening of a Rumble Seat. I have a 38 Cabriolet and the bottom of the lid does not seal against the body so water runs in. I am guessing Ford had something there to prevent this. Any photos would be appreciated.
Thanks

In my 36 its a 2" high metal ridge across the floor directly under to lid. The water drains out the back. 38???

It acts like a dam, keeping the water from draining forward.

On my 35 there is a trough that the lid seals on with a rubber seal in the trough and a rubber seal in the lid.ther is no trugh or seal across the btm water runs into rear of floor and out where it can get out, that's why they rust put here .

This is a major, major design flaw as far as I am concerned. I am going to fabricate a "T" shaped (cross section) piece of rubber to put in the slot at the bottom of the lid so I can wash the car without flooding out the tail pan area. Then remove it when I am done.Henry did some great things, but this was sooo bush league that it boggles my mind.....Matt in Alameda

I can't speak directly about a '38 but the '35 and '36 I have do not have a lower lid seal. The water runs directly off the lid on to the rear floor pan with the hope of it finding a couple of holes located in the pan to run out. That probably explains why so many cars with "original" rumble seats have a rotted-out rear pan.

For what it is worth.... In an effort to corral the water once it flows off the lid I created a collection pan that retained the water and prevented it from sloshing around. This gave the three drains in the pan time to drain it. That was more than 15+ years ago and nothing has rotted-out in the back pan area, yet.
