FWIW: Just sharing Information.
Have a 12V negative ground cigarette lighter attachment operating in my Model A on my 6V positive ground battery. Six (6) volts works well with an upscale Garmin GPS in day time. Had to increase 6V generator charging rate, (w/Fun Projects Voltage Regulator as opposed to an original Cut-Out), in long night time drives to keep this upscale Garmin fully charged & constantly operating. Received an email from a Model A friend who said his GPS can run a lot better on 6V with a 12V inverter. Went on Amazon.com and ordered a (Prime, Free Shipped) $21.58 DROK 120 W - Car Power Supply - Step Up Voltage Regulator - 12V Transformer - 10A DC - DC - Boost Converter Module - Input 5-11V Car Power Supply for operating a 120W, 12V Radio - Drok Part No. 200157. Works well now at night. Re-set generator charge rate with generator charging less. Wife is always want to charge her cell phone -- her cell phone has GPS. I painted it black with lacquer, mounted on in-side cowl panel ... more than $75.00 less expensive than inverters in Model A catalogs. Last edited by H. L. Chauvin; 12-04-2016 at 11:57 PM. An inverter changes DC power to AC.
A transformer changes voltage.

A TRANSFORMER changes more than voltage (current/impedance, waveform characteristics etc) and requires either AC or pulsating DC. A CONVERTER changes DC to DC voltage and/or polarity.
