Cast fuel bowl leaking- round two
OK, so I posted a while back about my weeping/leaking cast fuel bowl for a '28 roadster. I recent took it off, ground the internal vertical seat that the drain needle seats in with a stone, found a better needle/screw (whatever that part is called) and it is still weeping. What am I missing?

Re: Cast fuel bowl leaking- round two
Tim I went back and read your original post on this and it looks as if you may not be totally positive as the just where the fuel weep is coming from.
Turn the fuel off and get the carburetor totally dry. Then turn the fuel back on on and start dabbing toilet paper all around the carb to look for the leak. Toilet paper shows small leaks very well. I've been fooled in the past by a weeping fuel line connection at the carburetor looking like a leak at the base of the carburetor.

Re: Cast fuel bowl leaking- round two
Thanks, Dave. I'm fairly certain it's coming from there. I've done the paper towel dabbing trick and it always underneath the screw. It's small enough that it will "pool" up for a bit on the flat bottom of the screw and when you wipe it, it smells like stale gas. There will also be a few drops on the ground directly below it.

Re: Cast fuel bowl leaking- round two
I had an issue a couple of months ago with what I thought was the fuel bowl on the firewall leaking. I finally figured out that the 40yo line to the carburetor was what was leaking. Put a new one on and it solved the problem.

Fuel was weeping from that connection and would travel down the outside of the bowl. It was ever so slight. Thanks again, Fordbarn! Last edited by Tim Ayers; 05-31-2024 at 01:12 PM. |

As an alternative to buying a new gas line or sediment bowl, I used a brass flare gasket. No problems since... just incase your problem continues. |
