Default 1930 Ford Model A

I have a 1940 Ford Model A. I went to start it up and it turned over once and then click. I put a new starter in it and it click. when I take out the starter and test it on the ground it works okay but when I put it back in it just click I took out the spark plugs and it turned over okay I put the spark plugs back in and the starter just click. I also had a transmission rebuild. I do not know what the problem is. Up until now the car was starting up okay.

Check the length of the starter mounting bolts. They should be no longer than 1". Too long and they will contact the flywheel preventing it from turning.

Check your ground strap. Make sure you have 100% connectivity for a ground. Also make sure you have the correct cable. And welcome.

Can you turn the engine over with the crank? Also go with the previous suggestions. I have seen batteries that measured 6 volts but went to zero under load. You might want to have your battery load tested.

Put a volt meter right on the starter and check voltage when trying starter. Also use a hand crank to make sure it turns over ok.

Gotta know if you can crank the engine with a hand crank with the starter installed and then the same thing with it removed. Gotta zero in on the cause!
