Default Bad tire air valve.

I had a leaky air valve on my 1953 Mercury this week, so I went looking for a new valve. I found plenty of them. All in the size of .453". It was not until 1955 that Mercury/Ford and most others went to tubeless. My rim valve holes are made for tube type. I replaced it with the .453" size for now.

My wheels from mid-late 40s have a 5/8 inch hole. These tire valves are available by searching online. Not sure what your 53 is.

My 35 and 40 wheels are 5/8. The shop that mounted the tires had stems in stock.
