Default 40 brake master cyl

Is there a residual valve built into orig brake master cyl and if not why will a new dual master cyl need residual valves ?

Yes, as Bob said and any dual that you buy should either be for a front and rear drum setup. or use external residual check valves.

Couple of links discussing this:

How far from the master cyl can the residual valves be, my 40 would have the cyl too close to the X frame to fit the residuals ?

They can be away from the master to a spot where there is room. I like to keep them as close as possible without being crowded...but they will work fine within a couple feet for sure.

Place 10psi RCVs, for drum brakes, in the first hard brake line off of the master cylinder before any tees. The distance is not critical.
