I am getting ready to clean and paint the fan and fan pulley assembly on a '53 Flathead. This is a sealed bearing and 3 bladed fan. I would like to remove the shaft from the cast belt tightener assembly but only if it is threaded. Can anyone tell me if this shaft is threaded into the cast assembly? I can't find any diagrams for this and did not want to horse it up if it was pressed on.
Also, the bearing seems fine and is, I assume, the original. I plan to protect it during the cleaning process so as to not have to replace it...yet. |

Its best to leave it alone since its not threaded in. Having tried to remove the shaft myself recently to only destroy the darn thing I figure the only way to do it is to try and drill the shaft out of the casting but this shaft is hard making that option also difficult.
Since your bearing seems fine just clean and paint everything.
