Default Pulley to generator

Do I need a lock washer along with a nut to secure the pulley to the generator? The generator that came with the car (1936) didn't have a lock washer, just a nut.

They have a lock washer. It would be a good idea to have one, you don't want the fan going into the radiator. G.M.
