In the MARC/MAFCA RG's on page 4-20 Revised 2011, it states that on a 28-29 Tudor, Body to Frame Bolt Hole # 9 that there is a "Plain Flat Washer 15/32 x 1 x 1/16" that is placed in that area...Does the flat washer go inside the body before the bolt is placed down through the hole in the body OR is it placed after the bolt goes through the body then the body block then the frame, followed by the (flat washer) lock washer and nut?
(This is also the set up in the 30-31 Tudor as well as 28-31 Phaetons, Roadsters, and Coupes). Thanks. Pluck Last edited by Steve Plucker; 10-14-2014 at 02:21 AM. |

I went out and checked my early 30 sport coupe,it takes the same set up as the tudor it looks like the big washer goes on top of the subrail under the subrail is a block of wood, then the rubber pad (picture taken with a mirror ) under the cross rail is a lock washer and nut curious thing about my unmolested car is I don't have the round washer that's called for in the JS mine has a rectangle washer ,(see picture) I wonder what the deal is on that! tom |

Tom
that rectangle washer is part of the sub-frame, they are spot welded in place. I have seen more then one size of that reinforcement. they are made out of 1/8" steel so there is no need for a round washer. |

So if there is NO reenforcement...then I take it that the "round flat washer" that is mentioned in the Standards must go inside the cab and BEFORE the bolt is placed in the hole. Thanks guys. Pluck |

I went out and pulled the #9 body mount bolt to verify it for you like john said ,on this spt coupe ,there is no round washer at all just the rectangle welded to the sub frame I don't know if earlier or later cars had a round washer but mine sure dosnt heres the original body bolt nut and lock washer the wood block and rubber are in between the sub frame and cross member tom |

Yes,...Thanks Tom. I would like to know just where DeAngles and the rest of them got their information from. Hell, I can not even get any type of answer from the Judging Standards Committiee's...both MARC and MAFCA.

MOT,
Service Bulletins Page 395 (Nov '29) may address the rectangular reinforcement plates you've found on your tudor. The drawing shows a coupe, but would probably be more necessary on a tudor anyway. -DAN |
