FORD used an asphaltum treated fabric between the running board dust shield and the chassis. Also known as "anti-squeak".

If one had the fabric, say from Brattons,...just how could the asphaltum be recreated and applied to the fabric for installation on the chassis?

The fabric off my February 1929 Tudor Sedan is just that.

Is it not about the same texture/likeness of "friction tape"??

I was thinking the same as Craig. Maybe thin the tar a bit, then brush it on the fabric. I'd guess oil would thin the tar, even drain oil could work.

And while you're at it Pluck, you can paint your carb with it too, for an authentic factory finish...

Well, thanks to Mike, I am getting a quart of this tarish stuff...going to apply it to the frame welting I got from Brattons and hopefully it will look and have the same appearance as the original stuff I just removed from the chassis.

Should be interesting and hopefully not a mess!
