Want to make some wooden boards for stake pockets.
Are there sizes of wood posted anywhere.....height above steel box and gaps and size of wood etc? Heading hungry boars is supposed to read hungry boards. |

Make it yours. Maybe use some cardboard to see what you like then use the cardboard as a pattern.

There are no rules make it your way. I like 3/4 length on the top board. I like the stakes to stick up above the boards. Also like a radius around the boards and stake.
Here is one on the box that was just done, but it only has one board. Most of the time I use a 3/4 length on a top board. |

I had mine made out of red oak. I had all the edges on the boards and the posts routered with a fancy edge design. I have had many compliments. My posts extend 2 inches above the horizontal boards. While we are talking pickups I had the Ford on the tailgate painted the same color as the wheels ( apple green ) and it looks great. Not by the book, but looks great !

Also while talking about pickups, mine does not have a fender well, and I fitted some bumperettes of my tourer, to make the tray and rear of view not look so small, and found a 21 inch spare wheel tucks and sits real nice with minimal tying down under the tray.
The hubcap just clears the crossbar and the tyre just clears the diff. |

Pooch I have trouble loading on this site. I am sure we will learn eventually. Send me a private message with an email address and I will be happy to send you a picture of the truck with the rails and the apple green powder coated rims. I am looking for a picture of the Ford insignia as we speak !

Here are Al's pics.....
Both look very nice detail, with a closeup of pickup wood. Al, a 3/4 rear shot of your apple green ford logo and wheels would be interesting. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thank you for posting Pooch. I will post the apple green logo when I either find or take a picture. You will notice that I used furniture Brass fasteners to fasten the horizontal boards to the posts. Certainly not 1929 but very practical.
Thanks again, Al |

Wonder if BALSA WOOD is available in large sizes? A person could do a "mock up" quickly & alter it easily until they got it like they wanted it to look. Just break out the "GINSU" knife! Bill W.

1 inch gap 4 X 1 board 1 inch gap 4 X 1 board 2 inches at top. That makes 12 inches of upright protruding from stake hole? If you have any more pics to post, just email them, or I can show you how to do it with photobucket if you like. I did cut them down in size and KB. They were between 3.5 and 4 MB when you emailed and just by using the windows snipping tool, they are less than 80 kb, about 1/50th of the size to download. |
