Long time no see on my part... I'm getting back into my AA project and plan to be taking a trip to the southwest very soon.

I'm in need of any and all sheet metal for a 29 AA. Mine has the long running boards and rear fenders. I know the rear fenders are a needle in an expensive haystack but I'm mostly needing:

all cab parts
front fenders
running boards
splash aprons
hood

Destination is New Mexico and coming from IL so going through Missouri, Oklahoma, top nub of Texas, and majority of NM to our destination.

Anyone know of any places to stop or anyone to contact to see if they may have these parts along that route? Never been to the southwest so more places to explore the better.

Maybe try calling Bert's a little in advance to inquire what one can expect to find there for a 1929 AA.

If required, this may also give them a little time to look around their stock when they get a slack moment to report back "exactly" what they may or may not have for your AA.

Stop for lunch or coffee at local cafes. Ask the guy sitting next to you if he knows of any AA parts. They are probably into antique tractors but they will know where to point you. And then let them talk. You will be surprised at the responses. I have picked up a lot of stuff and made some good friends that way. It will make your trip much more than a simple "get there" experience.

the people in Missouri and oklahoma are down right friendly
any small cafe will do,feed stores and tractor places are great too
we made friends ,just by talking to other patrons in a cafe and 6 years later we still are friends and have gone back and visited them

yea that's a good idea about the cafe's.

Just curious as to what the going rate is for some of the stuff i desire. Im not looking to keep my AA 100% original so if repro fenders, boards etc are cheaper i will go that route but im a bit unsure what a good deal would be if i saw one.

mot, you know the secret! I stopped with our old RV at a truck stop in eastern Colorado and an old couple pulled into the parking lot with an old Ford on the trailer. It didn't take long before we were talking. I needed a front fender for a 51 Ford F-1 and he said he had one at home, which was a small town in Kansas. It was a little out of our way back to Minnesota but we followed him home, bought a nice fender, and parked our RV in his side yard where he had an electrical hookup on an old mobile home site. We spent the evening in their home, had dinner and left the next day after touring his "inventory" while the wives talked about other things. Nice, nice people.
The absolute best way to find old Ford stuff is to troll the back roads and small towns with an old Ford on the trailer. You don't have to look, they come up to you.

Also, it doesn't take a whole car on the trailer to get attention. Just a rusty cowl or some fenders will do it. Then you have room to pick up more too!
