It looks like when you squeeze the handle the barb would grab a bushing or bearing race and you can twist and pull it out of a blind hole. I might be wrong, but that's my guess since I haven't seen such a tool before.

Tightening the large nut would pull the bushing or race out.

The tool has to be held on, since there is NO lock. With the "O" ring, it's meant to seal some liquid outlet temporarily, like when filling MOONSHINE jugs! Bill W. (But HONEST, Ossifer, Sir, it's just xtra FUEL!)

I believe this tool is used for installing door and trunk handle ferules on twenties to thirties GM vehicles.

Yes, that is why there is an adjusting nut, to set the tool for the length of ferule and thickness of the door.

Yup!! That's it. Used to install the door handle ferule on GM's. Used one a couple of times!! The Old Tinbasher
