Default 33/34 roadster cowl wood and casting problem

It seems that for the same part number there are two shapes of castings that attach to the cowl wood to mount the windshield post. For 1934 it appears that the top cross cowl wood is tappered at each end to mount the 34 casting. For 33 it appears that the top cross piece is not tapered but requires a wedge on vertical wood on the side of the cowl for the 33 casting??? Anyone have OEM wood and confirm. I am just trying to figure out why there are two shapes and is it a 33/34 issue as I imply above .... or there simply are two shapes and the assembler at the factory had to adjust the wood (ie cut and or wedge) accordingly?????

Thank you
