Default temp gauge

My temp gauge goes from cold to hot (pinned) but takes about 5 minutes,the engine is not that hot.What could cause this?

If you are using both the 2 terminal and 1 terminal sensors try bypassing the 2 terminal. The 2 terminal is basically an over temp switch. The 1 terminal unit measures temperature.

If it still does the same after bypassing the left two terminal sender as 41ford1 suggested it's most likely a defective single terminal sender on the right side. Replacements available here: https://secure435.hostgator.com/~dlv...g=130&t=885&tn=
